MacBook Logic Board Repair in Downtown Chicago

Has your MacBook completely stopped turning on, shut off unexpectedly, or suffered a liquid spill? Apple frequently claims a dead computer requires replacing the entire motherboard—a swap that often costs almost as much as a new laptop and permanently erases all your files. We diagnose and repair your existing board, fixing the actual damaged circuits to get your MacBook working again with your data preserved.

Turnaround Time

Diagnostic: 2–24 Hours | Board Repair: 2–6 Weeks (Averages)

Preliminary physical inspection is free. Our in-depth $150 diagnostic and triage fee covers testing internal power circuits and identifying damaged components (average 2–24 hours). This $150 fee is non-refundable, but 100% of it is credited directly toward your repair balance. Following triage, most standard board repairs ($275–$500) are offered on a No Fix, No Fee basis for the repair balance—if the standard repair cannot be completed, you owe nothing for the repair work beyond the initial diagnostic. For rare, catastrophic damage running up to $900, we may provide a partial quote for the attempt, always presented for your clear approval beforehand.
Notice on Estimates & Timelines: All prices, turnaround times, and diagnostic durations listed are typical averages based on standard repairs. They are not guaranteed quotes or fixed deadlines and may vary depending on device complexity, parts availability, or current bench workload. You will always receive a clear quote for approval before any billed repair work begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about macbook logic board repair and our shop policies.

How much does MacBook logic board repair cost compared to Apple's motherboard replacement?

While an out-of-warranty logic board assembly swap at the Apple Store typically runs $800 to $1,500+ (and replaces your soldered storage in the process), our component-level logic board repairs average $250 to $500 (with severe multi-zone reconstruction up to $900). Compare turnaround times, data policies, and pricing tiers in our Apple Store Michigan Ave vs. Independent Repair Guide.

How does the $150 diagnostic triage fee and credit work?

Preliminary physical inspection is free. In-depth bench triage—where we isolate power rails and pinpoint shorted chips under a microscope—is a $150 non-refundable fee (2–24 hours average). 100% of that $150 fee is credited toward your approved board repair quote, and standard repair balances ($275–$500) are covered by our No Fix, No Fee guarantee. If your Mac is stuck drawing 5V instead of 20V, read our MacBook USB-C Power Controller Diagnostic Guide.

How long does component-level logic board repair take?

Initial bench triage takes 2 to 24 hours on average, and full component-level micro-soldering and board testing takes 2 to 6 weeks on average, depending on circuit complexity and donor IC availability.

Will repairing my original logic board keep my macOS files and data safe?

Yes. Because we replace only the blown capacitors, MOSFETs, or power controller ICs on your existing logic board, your onboard soldered SSD and encrypted Secure Enclave pair remain untouched.
